19th Century British Novel

In this course, we will survey the 19th century novel from Jane Austen through the writers of nineties.  Readings (8 novels) will be drawn from among the following list of writers:  Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, Charles Dickens, George Eliot, Lewis Carroll, Thomas Hardy, Oscar Wilde, and Rudyard Kipling.  Requirements include 2 brief critical papers and 1 longer research paper.  

(Note: This course, taken in combination with English 45 or 65, may be used to fulfill the usual English 203 requirement.)
