Shakespeare Tragedies
Susan Iwanisziw profile

MWF 10

In this introduction to Shakespeare, we will deal primarily with his tragedies, reading them (and watching them on videotape on occassion) in their material context as stage drama, and analyzing them in their historical context as records of Early Modern English culture.  I will arrange a class trip to at least one stage performance.  Grades will be based on midterm and final examinations, and one research paper.

Note: Taking this course, in addition to any course in medieval literature (e.g. English 20, 25, 220, 501), will satisfy the usual English 201 requirement.
