In this course, we will discuss the complex relationship between domestic space and the space of adventure in a series of American novels published between the late nineteenth century and the mid-twentieth century. We will be reading novels by Mark Twain, Theodore Dreiser, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Willa Cather, Jack London, ernest Hemingway, Richard Wright, and Zora Neale Hurston. Requirements include 4 short critical papers.
