The course begins with study of Modern English sounds and sound
changes and work in phonetic transcription.  It then explores the
ancestry and early growth of English, the history of English sounds and
English inflections, and concludes with discussion of Pronunciation,
Variations, and Standards in Modern British and American English, and
concludes with study of the sources of, and changes in the English
vocabulary.
