Topics in American Literature: Twain
Gregg Camfield profile

MWF 11

Mark Twain is one of a very select few authors who remains highly acclaimed by a large audience and is praised by literary critics.  In this class, we will read the major works of Mark Twain both to increase our appreciation of them and to try to understand the workings of the popular and academic literary marketplaces.  We will read Innocents Abroad, Roughing It, Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, A Connecticuthur's Court, Pudd'nHead Wilson, The Mysterious Stranger Manuscripts, "Three-Thousand Years Among the Microbes," and a collection of shorter works as well as a few pieces of criticism.  Requirements include several very short essays and a 15 page research paper.
