Mark Twain, Emily Dickinson, Henry James, Edith Wharton, Frank Norris, Henry Adams, and one or two other authors will receive our attention in this lecture/discussion course. Students will write two short papers. Six or seven short quizzes (with your two lowest grades or absences disregarded) and a final examination will afford you an opportunity to show that you have kept up with a fairly demanding list of readings. (Note: This course may be taken instead of English 200 to fulfill an English major requirement.)
