Film and Criticism

TR 10:30-12

Relying mostly on films available on videotape, we shall consider the literary aspects of film as well as the filmic aspects of literature. We shall compare film versions of novels, plays, and short stories with their sources.  There will also be exercises in film criticism and movie-reviewing, in which we pay special attention to the strengths and weaknesses of traditional of literary in the evaluation and analysis of motion pictures.  Class size is limited to 25 students.  There will be several short papers and one longer term paper, but no final examination.
