Theatre of the Holocaust
Edward Isser profile

TR 5:00-6:15

Theatre of the Holocaust comparatively analyzes a variety of
representational strategies used to dramatize the Nazi atrocities of
the World War II. Critical issues addressed in the course include the
relationship betwen history and art; the responsibility of the artist;
the theatricality of violence; revisionism and censorship;
exploitation and pornography; feminist and gay perspectives; and the
problem of memory. Texts from France, Germany, Poland, England,
Israel, and the United States form the basis for in-class discussion
and independent research projects. (See also Filreis, English 293,
The Literature of the Holocaust.)
