Sexuality on Stage
Lynda Hart profile

TR 12-1:30

This course is designed to provide you with a working understanding of feminist theories as they have intersected in the last decade with theatre/performance studies.  The course takes as a given that what constitutes subjectivity is not prior to or independent of the representations we make.  Thus a strong focus of the course will be on how our individual and collective identities are produced, not merely reflected, in representation.  "Performativity,"  as a concept, will be interrogaterd especially in relation to social configurations of gender, race, class, ethnicities and sexualities.  We will be studying the performances of contemporary artists, most of them feminist and/or gay and lesbian, such as Holly Hughes, Karen Finley, Tim Miller, Split Britches, Adrain Peper, Anna Deavere Smith, and performance/presentation will be required.
