R 4:30-7:15

This course is concerned with American literature and cultural life
from the turn of the century until about 1945.  The course emphasizes
the period between the two World Wars and emphasizes as well the
intellectual and cultural milieu in which the writers found
themselves.  English 84 is a study of writers, their works, and their
world.  Works by the following writers are usually included:  James,
Eliot, Frost, Fitzgerald, Faulkner, West, Stevens, DuBois, Wharton,
Stein, West, Welty, Ellison, and Warren.
