This course is an introductory survey to the literature of the Romantic period, focusing on its poetry and drama. In particular, we will spend time on the conventions of form, genre, and performance. What does it mean for a poet to participate in a particular tradition? to speak in persona or ironically? We will examine these writers in relation to one another, and in the context of the cultural movements in which they participated. Requirements: there will be 3 responses, a short essay, a long essay, and a final examination.
